Reflexology for Fertility, Pregnancy and Birth
Pregnancy, labour and birth are all very emotional stages and very often the labour you manage to give is not the only one you had hoped for. Reflexology can alleviate many symptoms of pregnancy such as heartburn, tiredness, headaches, constipation, fluid retention. Also reflexology helps to promote a normal and healthy pregnancy. For transverse, breach or overdue babies the use of specific pressure points on the body for moving the baby gives very good results, it is a safe, non-intrusive way to help. Post-natal treatments help the mother to regain her physical and hormonal equilibrium. Pregnancy, labour and birth are all very emotional stages and very often the labour you manage to give is not the one you had hoped for.
Studies has been done to prove the benefits of reflexology during pregnancy, labour and post-natally.
Reflexology during pregnancy promotes:
- A normal and healthy pregnancy, which goes to term smoothly.
- A short, safe and as pain free as possible labour.
- Reduced inflexibility of the hip joints and pelvis.
- A more natural birth with less medical or surgical intervention.
- Successful breastfeeding.
- A calmer and improved relationship between mother and baby.
Having a baby means that the body undergoes a massive change. It is hardly surprising therefore that you feel some ( hopefully not all ) of the effects of, tiredness and lack of energy, early morning sickness, nausea, vomiting and heartburn, headache and neck tension, back ache, oedema, insomnia and an irritable uterus. these reactions may not develop or will at least be less severe if the mother has received regular Reflexology from early pregnancy.
Malpresentation: baby lying in the wrong position: Malpresentations are when the baby in the womb is lying in the wrong position. Ideally babies should be head down and lying in a longitudinal position ideally with his back uppermost. After 34 weeks the midwife who cares for the mother-to-be will be interested in the position of the baby.
For transverse or breach babies the application of Meridian Theory in pregnancy can provide very good reactions to the baby. This aspect of Reflexology involves the use of specific pressure pointson the body for moving the baby. It is a safe , non-intrusive way to help.
Overdue babies: Priming the body to prepare for labour may well prevent the necessity for induction. You will be shown the points on your foot/legs and given a foot chart, in order to continue pressing the points at home with your partner. There is no statistic showing success rate using acupressure, but it's a technique used in several countries and indeed in Australia. During labour: Reflexology can be very relaxing in the first stage of labour, it helps keep the body calm, grounded and therefore work more efficiently. A treatment encourages the body to release its own endomorphines, as a form of pain relief. After delivery: Post-natal treatments help the mother to regain her physical and hormonal equilibrium. Post-natal depression can be prevented or treatments used to aid its recovery. Baby can be brought along to the treatments. Sub fertility: We should not forget that around 3 in every 10 cases of infertility remain unexplained. Reflexology combined with some intuitive work can play a major role in helping a couple to conceive a child naturally by improving the woman's fertility. This is very deep, touching work made especially personal by the close co-operation with the woman as she gains insight into her own physical , emotional and spiritual sides. HERA - Greek Godess of Women and Marriage
Hera, the Greek Goddess, was the Olympian queen of Gods and the goddess of women and marriage, fertility and the birth of children. She was also goddess of the sky and starry heavens.
She was usually depicted as a beautiful woman wearing a crown and holding a royal, lotus-tipped staff. Her bird was a peacock.
For anyone who works with the spiritual and magical powers of animals and has a peacock as a totem, an examination of the mysticism and symbolism of the feet should be examined.
The feet are our support system; they are at the foundation of our structure, they enable us to move and to be upright. An examination and use of foot reflexology is beneficial to study for anyone with a peacock as a totem.
